Itinerary

DAY 1: Edinburgh - Isle of Skye

Leaving Edinburgh at 8.00am, we travel through Perthshire, a land of forests, rivers and mountains. Our first stop is the quaint village of Dunkeld with its historic cathedral sitting on the banks of the River Tay. We travel further north into the Highlands through the Great Glen. We stop at Fort Augustus, on the banks of Loch Ness for lunch with time to explore the shores and to spot Nessie. The journey continues to the famous Isle of Skye past spectacular Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most famous icons. Our home for the night is on the Isle of Skye, the ‘winged isle’ at deluxe B&B.  (Overnight: Portree)

DAY 2: Isle of Skye

We set off early and make the most of the winter daylight to explore the magical Isle of Skye.  Highlights include the jagged Cullin Mountains, the mysterious rock formation of the Old Man of Storr and Kilt Rock with its cascading waterfall. Hear tales of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s escape from the mainland while taking in the beautiful winter scenery.  Arrive back at the Skye Inn early evening with time to relax by the fire with a warming dram before dinner. (Overnight: Portree)

DAY 3: Isle of Skye - Edinburgh

We head south via the Skye Bridge, through stunning glens and past the poignant Commando Memorial and Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain. Marvel at the atmospheric Glen Coe, a true showstopper of a landscape, and the wilds of the vast Rannoch Moor before journeying through Rob Roy country to hear about the rogue who turned to a hero. Soon, we cross back into the Lowlands and arrive in Edinburgh at approximately 5.30pm.
